When Should I Upload My Documents to Ensure an On-Time Tax Return?

To give your accountant sufficient time to prepare an accurate return, upload all required documents at least 14 days before the filing deadline you intend to meet:

Filing deadlineRecommended upload dateNotes
April 15 (standard U.S. deadline)By April 1Applies if you reside in the United States.
June 15 (automatic extension for expats)By June 1Automatic two-month extension for Americans living abroad.
October 15 (if you request a further extension, Form 4868)By October 1Your accountant can file Form 4868 on your behalf if needed.

Why 14 days?

  • Allows your accountant time to review documents, clarify questions, and claim all eligible exclusions and credits.
  • Ensures any e-filing or paper-filing issues can be resolved before the IRS cutoff dates.

If you’re catching up on multiple years or filing under the Streamlined Filing Compliance Procedures, earlier uploads are strongly recommended.
